Most Christians do not know why the church exists.
Yes, that’s a big, bold statement, and it’s also my opinion, but I am very confident in saying that.
Think about it. How many kids go to school and don’t know the purpose of education?
(How many teachers and school administrators in the US know the purpose of school?!)
Marriage today is not biblical.
Well, our modern construct of marriage in Western society is not biblical. I don’t want to speak for other countries and cultures.
To clarify, I’m not talking about homosexual unions and the like. Most Christians don’t need me to discuss the biblicality of those marriages.
What better way to waste your time on your day of rest than to do it with an ineffective sermon, right?
The Sunday sermon, a cornerstone of modern-day Christian churches, provides an opportunity for believers to gather, reflect, and learn from the teachings of Scripture.
Despite this valuable time of communal worship, however, these sermons may not always lead to the transformative change intended.
“We are fast approaching the singing from our students.”
I turned to Olivia who was directing the concert with me and said, “I don’t think ‘fast approaching’ is the best way to describe it.” We both laughed as we looked at the time on our phones. The concert had been scheduled for 7pm, and it was already almost 9pm, yet the choir had not yet sung a single song.
“Please tell your church that we thank them for letting you come and minister to us.”
The Ghanaian man who translated for me as I preached thanked me profusely for coming to his church while the congregation nodded their heads in agreement. It meant so much to them that my church in Minnesota would share me with them for a Sunday, one-third of the way around the globe.
