Day 61: Ecclesiastes 12:1-81 min read

“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them'” (Ecclesiastes 12:1).

Ah dearski! Those difficult days are coming when life will be just a drag and eternity will be both a touchable reality and a strong desire. When old age sets in, life seemingly becomes less and less worth living.

Of course, this is still all from the perspective of a king who was sadly looking back on a life that was full of regrets. With God, mortal life can be meaningful until the very end. Nevertheless, old age makes life harder.

While I am still young, I need to make the most of my life for God’s glory. Remember who I am and from whence I came. Remember the purpose in life that God has given me. In fact, the end of my life may be just around the next corner.

The joys of life fade fast apart from God, and in comparison with heaven, yes, everything on earth is vanity! But thanks be to God that my existence is not a meaningless waste of nothing. My Creator is sovereign, and I can’t take Him for granted.

As each new day dies into the past,
Am I living for things that will last?
Does God get the glory while I am young,
Or am I collecting a pile of dung?

To my Creator all things am I giving?
For my Redeemer
